KILL DEVIL HILL Welcome TYPE O NEGATIVE Drummer Johnny Kelly To Band // First Shows With New Lineup Announced

KDH-579x630

KILL DEVIL HILL are proud to announce the addition of TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly to the band. Kelly, who also plays with DANZIG and his own band A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH, replaces the recently departed Vinny Appice.

“I’m really excited about coming on board with Kill Devil Hill,” says Kelly. “I’ve been a fan since their debut and have known the guys for a long-time. It’s also clear that I have some really big shoes to fill. I’m ready for that challenge as I prepare for KDH’s next chapter – this is gonna be a blast!”

The band will play their first shows with Kelly behind the kit April 4-6 [see dates below], three warm-up shows before embarking on an Australian run with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. More expansive North American dates will be announced shortly.

Adds KILL DEVIL HILL bassist Rex Brown: “We all have a lot of love and respect for Vinny and have been honored to have jammed with him over the last few years – we wish Vinny well with all his future endeavors, it has been a blast!”

“It’s been a great musical adventure from the beginning, but the time has now come to go our separate ways and continue to make music that we love,” says Appice of his decision to leave the band.

Featuring PANTERA and former DOWN bassist Rex Brown, ex-PISSING RAZORS frontman Dewey Bragg, acclaimed session/touring guitarist MARK ZAVON and now TYPE O NEGATIVE, DANZIG and A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH drummer Johnny Kelly, KILL DEVIL HILL deliver a crushing sound that combines a contemporary feel with a classic aesthetic that few bands today can rival. The band will be on the road throughout 2014.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH REX AT SKULLS N BONES, INCLUDES FOOTAGE FROM REX’S RECENT HARTKE CLINIC!

rexbrown600

It’s been a busy year for legendary bassist Rex Brown. Back in March he released his amazing autobiography, “Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story Of Pantera,” and since then he has been in the studio getting the new Kill Devil Hill record ready for our ears. As we revealed last week, Kill Devil Hill will be releasing their new album, “Revolution Rise,” on October 29th via Century Media Records, and Rex previously said that “it’s definitely one of his favorite moments of his career,” so you know it’s going to kick ass! Along with the announcement on the new record, Rex also revealed that he has teamed up with Hartke to continue to bring his powerful signature sound for years to come! Last week he held his first ever bass clinic at Sam Ash and I was lucky enough to be in attendance! Rex performed several songs for the crowd, answered questions, and it was just awesome! Before the set I got to sit down with the legend to talk about his new Hartke deal, the upcoming Kill Devil Hill release, the response to his book and much more! Watch the interview, along with our video recap of the bass clinic below!

“Bass Player LIVE! is the biggest and baddest bass event of the year,” says Bass Player editor Brian Fox. “And this year’s lineup is our heaviest yet. When it comes to hard rock bass playing, Geezer Butler wrote the book. That he continues to perform with every bit the raw intensity of his early days in Black Sabbath is an inspiration for players of all ages and all styles. With the Stray Cats, Lee Rocker took the upright bass—already one of the coolest instruments ever—and somehow made it even more hip, slapping the snot out of it to codify the sound of rockabilly bass. To our ears, Tal Wilkenfeld personifies the bright future of rock bass. From her work with Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, and Joe Walsh to her fleet-fingered solo work, Tal’s refreshing fusion of jazz, soul, funk, and rock is something we’ve had our ears and eyes on for a long time now. We’re thrilled and honored to have these three artists anchor an evening of amazing performances.”
